The American Optometric Association recommends that all people should have a periodic, comprehensive eye exam every one to two years depending on one’s particular needs. At North Texas Family Eye Care, we incorporate computerized technology to assist the evaluation of glasses prescriptions, peripheral vision, intraocular pressure, and eye health. Examinations include tests for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and the ocular effects of many general health disorders such as diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as effects of medications.
We offer retinal imaging called optical coherence tomography (OCT). OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that may be performed as a standard part of your regular, comprehensive exams, or you may be able to request this test as an addition to your usual exam. This is the latest in technology to detect any problems with retina. It is more than a retinal picture of the eye!
- Comprehensive Eye Exams - Learn more about what problems can be spotted with an eye exam, what’s involved in a comprehensive exam, and special considerations for kids and contacts.
- Pediatric Eye Exams - Early identification of a child's vision problem is crucial. We use pictures for young kids who are not familiar with letters yet.
- Dry Eye Treatment- Dry eyes result from the chronic lack of lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye, which can cause minor irritations, an inability to wear contact lenses and an increased risk of corneal inflammation and eye infections.
- Consultation for Cataract Surgery - Cataract surgery removes the natural lens of the eye that has become opaque, and replaces it with a synthetic lens.
- Consultation for iLASIK Surgery - If you're ready for an alternative to glasses and/or contacts, LASIK may be the right solution for you! Call the office for a consultation visit to discuss your laser vision correction options.
- Contact Lens Exam - The contact lens examination involves evaluating the tear film layer, analyzing the cornea, fitting diagnostic lenses, and contact lens follow up visits as needed. This means that the doctor has to evaluate the health of your eyes every year in order to determine the optimum prescription for your eyes. Contact lens examination are required on a yearly basis. These tests are done to make sure your eyes are healthy, that the lenses fit your eyes properly, and to ensure that you are seeing as clearly as possible.
- Red, Pink or Sore Eyes- Did you know your optometrist can help you with red eyes, pink eye, or sore eyes? You don't have to go to your primary care physician for help with these issues.
- Eye Emergencies - Eye injuries range from the very minor such as getting soap in your eye, to the catastrophic such as chemical exposure or lacerations, which could result in permanent loss of vision. We can also remove foreign body or pieces of metal from the eye.
- Glaucoma Testing -Glaucoma testing involves measuring internal eye pressure and a detailed scan of the retina for signs of disease. Dr. Khan is licensed to treat and manage glaucoma.
- Diabetic Eye Exam- A diabetic eye exam, or diabetic retinal exam is a comprehensive exam designed to detect and monitor eye problems caused by diabetes which involves dilating the pupils to examine the retina and blood vessels. Once the eyes are dilated, this leads to scanning the retina with an instrument called optical coherence tomography (OCT). The OCT instrument will take images of the back of your eyes. These retinal images allow the eye doctor to assess all the structures in the eye, which include the nerve fiber layer and retinal blood vessels for any abnormalities. A patient will see a flash when each image is taken, but at no point should be in any pain.
- Macular Degeneration Treatment - Macular degeneration is an eye disease that affects the portion of the eye responsible for processing fine detail and providing sharp central vision (called the macula).
